The challenges are similar on the other side of the border: the Netherlands and Germany confront urgent issues that require local, regional, national, and cross-border solutions. The challenges concern climate change, the energy transition, the circular economy, infrastructure, mobility, health and housing. In establishing a new standard endorsed by policy, it is necessary to create space for new initiatives and experiments both in terms of working methodologies and project-level implementations.

Cross-border cooperation forms the core of the concept for Zuid-Limburg. The project will create an integrated, cross-border spatial vision and strategy with initial guidelines for a spatial development program. In doing so, the project will make a significant contribution in strengthening cooperation, while achieving spatial quality, aligning with the objectives of the Regio Deal.
