RESILIENCE AND BUILT HERITAGE – WORKSHOP
The research project "Resilience and Cultural Heritage", as part of the Urban Agenda Partnership "Culture and Cultural Heritage" and commissioned by the BBSR and the BMWSB, dealt with the protection of sites of built heritage significance from disasters. The main aim was to formulate guidelines and recommendations for integrated risk management approaches.
In September 2021, an international workshop was held in Bordeaux to discuss the results of the previous work steps. Experts from the fields of risk management and cultural heritage protection addressed issues, in particular the intersection of the two disciplines and the definition and prioritization of protection goals at different spatial levels.
The main focus of the discussion was on the following questions:
The participants noted that conventional (data-based) risk assessments are often unreliable due to changing framework conditions, particularly in the context of climate change. At the same time, built heritage is considered worthy of protection and a source of identity for local communities; conservation goals should therefore be defined in transparent processes involving all relevant stakeholders.
